App badges and push notifications

Here’s how the unread badge on the app icon works today, and what to expect from push notifications.

When you install the app on your phone, the app icon can show a small badge count of how many unread items you have, so you can see there’s something waiting without opening the app.

✅ The badge works on Chrome and Edge (on Android and on desktop). It is not supported by Safari or Firefox, so you won’t see a badge there. This is a browser limitation, not an app setting.

The badge refreshes while the app is open, and when a push notification arrives. It clears once you’ve caught up. (With the app closed and push off, the badge stays as it was until you next open the app.)

When someone forwards feedback to you, the app can send a push notification so you find out without opening it. Push works once you turn it on:

  1. Install the app to your home screen — push is only available on the installed app.
  2. Open Settings (tap your avatar in the header) and find the Notifications section.
  3. Turn on Mobile notifications, and allow notifications when your phone asks.

Once it’s on, new shared items arrive as a notification that takes you straight to your Notifications tab. The items always appear in the tab as well — notifications are just an extra delivery channel.

ℹ️ A few platform limits apply. Push needs the installed app and your permission. On iPhone and iPad, web push only works when the app is added to the Home Screen. If your browser doesn’t support notifications, the settings show Notifications are not supported on this browser instead of the toggle. And the setting is per device — turn it on on each phone or computer where you’ve installed the app.

🔒 Blocked notifications earlier? The toggle stays visible but disabled, with the message Notifications blocked. To enable, update your browser or OS notification settings for this app. Re-allow notifications for the app in your phone or browser settings, then come back — the app picks up the change.

Between the Mobile notifications push channel and the badge count on Chrome and Edge, you’ll know when something new is waiting. You can also open the Notifications tab (page titled Shared with you) any time to catch up.
